On New Years day I was visiting the Fushimi Inari Shrine - like many other people.
The way to the temple was OK. I was taking the train from Kyoto station.
It was full but not packed but at the station, they had opened all
gates and you would give your ticket to an employee instead of to the
gate.
Everybody was slowly moving towards the Shrine.
Comming closer through lots and lots of food stands.
In front of the shrine people queued.
Behind the shrine the way up the hill.
Here the long way up the hill through hundreds of tory starts.
On this day the double lane of tories was a one way, left up, right down.
Further up the hill there were several smaller shrines, where little tory were placed. They cost much less than the huge ones, you can walk through.
On the way up there are multiple rest places, where you can get something to eat and drink.
The weather was changing constantly. Sometimes the sun was comming through. Here close to the mid station.
I decided, not to go back to the shrine, as it would have taken vor ever to get a ticket at the station. Instead I was walking down through the forest to another station. Right below the forest a very nice residential area started. Here one of the houses.
On my way back I stopped by at the Nishin - Konganji temple. (Nishi = West).
It has a very nice gate
In the temples the huge lamps have faces with strange eyes at the bottom.
Between the two temple buildings the connection has squeeking boards and also these golden lamps.
