Summer vacation 14 - Akita - Kanto matsuri

I came all the way up to Akita to see the famous Kanto Matsuri and it rained almost the whole day. Well, at least the lotus looks pretty in rain.

But the festival activities got cut short. As I'm not a fan of becoming soaking wet and the pauses in rain did not meet the festival schedule, I almost missed the fun. But lucky me I finally had the chance to watch a special performance of a team on their way home from very close and well lit. Here some of the pictures. The lanterns are connected to a structure, that has an extendable pole. The men balancing it on their hands, shoulders, foreheads and hips, taking turns. The whole construction bends more and more, the higher it gets. And finally it collapses and the lanterns fall down, which blows out the light.

Unfortunately I can not add videos through the iPad. So that has to wait.
