From Akita I wanted to go to Matsushima. This means to cross the mountains again. Mountains have rivers, which forms gorges. One of them is Naruko kyo (kyo = gorge). Unfortunately the main path along the river is closed due to falling rocks. But a smaller path along a side gorge is open. In the background already some big clouds are forming but so far it is sunny. So let's go.
Some pretty flowers on the side again
Through the side gorge there is an old path going, that was connecting Akita with today's Morioka.
I left the area just in time before the big Thunderstorms moved over and continued to Matsushima.
Matsushima is famous for its scenery, a bay with lots of little islands. I had a bit of time until the rain caught up with me, to explore one of them.
Back at the hotel I waited for the rain to finish to go back into town. The temple had a big festival with lanterns and candels lighted. Unfortunately only limited candels where on due to the rain but still a very nice atmosphere.
